LONDON — The Open IPTV Forum (OIPF) has published the architecture specification for IPTV infrastructure elements and services to be included in Release 2 of the forum's specifications.

Meanwhile, some members of the OIPF are this week demonstrating at IBC in Amsterdam products and solutions based on the first version of the specifications for end-to-end IPTV solutions, which were published earlier this year.

Fraunhofer FOKUS will demonstrate the convergence of IPTV, telecommunications and community services including basic IPTV services such as LiveTV and VoD and advanced services as incoming call and interaction with VoD.

And Netgem is showing a user interface and key digital TV features (for example navigation, zapping, Recording, MediaCenter) based on scripting support and technologies from the specifications.

Other members of the Forum, including Verimatrix and Ericsson are also demonstrating support for elements of the OIPF specifications.

Chair of the OIPF, Yunchao Hu, said: "The first demonstration under the OIPF umbrella of technologies based on elements of our Release 1 Specifications is a significant step forward for the Forum."

The Forum said technical workgroups are now working on the development of Release 2 that addresses several additional services and features by introducing or extending functionality in a number of key areas, including: the broadening of the service domain to include mobile networks allowing OIPF-specificied features such as remote access and notifications; enhanced content access for consumers, including more sophisticated local and network PVR, timeshift, PPV and personalised channels; and functions to increase customer convenience such as notifications, TV bookmarking and parental controls; and features which assist the service provider in the provision and measuring of the service.

The Open IPTV Forum was established in 2007 to develop end-to-end specifications for standardised IPTV solutions, helping eliminate many of the interoperability and portability issues that have historically hampered IPTV service providers.
