Vimicro buys surveillance line from Alcatel-Lucent

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- China's Vimicro International Corp., a multimedia semiconductor provider, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the video surveillance system technology line from Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell Ltd. Co.

Vimicro will acquire all property, plant and equipment, inventories, business contracts, intellectual property and service and development capabilities in China. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Vimicro is a security and surveillance solution addressing the needs of telecom operators and local governments in China. The acquisition is expected to be closed in September of 2009 as agreed by both parties. The closing of the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.

Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell is the flagship company of Alcatel-Lucent in Asia.
