PARIS France-based Vitec Multimedia, specializing in advanced MPEG encoding technology, announced it has acquired Stradis Inc., provider of professional-grade video decoders, for an undisclosed amount.
Since its creation in 1988, Vitec (Chtillon, France) has been devoted to the development of MPEG Encoding, video compression and the creation of concepts for the digital video applications. Since 1990, the company has focused its efforts on digital video, conforming to ISO standards (MPEG for video) and others.
Under the terms of the agreement, Stradis (Atlanta, GA) said it would retain its brand identity, complementing Vitec's video business. Stradis will continue to operate from its Atlanta headquarters as an independent company.
"The acquisition of Stradis by Vitec brings substantial resources and synergy to our company," commented Art Nacht, Stradis' managing director.
He added: "Vitec is providing Stradis with extensive R&D resources and 20 years of MPEG experience. This will enable Stradis to develop and deploy the next-generation video decoder platforms for serving media worldwide. Our plans include new form factors and multiple CODEC support including AVC and HD AVC."
